Partnerships in Health Information -TanzaniaTanzania Health Information Partnership: Partners= Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is a well-established government higher education institution that provides both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes for health personnel in Tanzania. The programmes cover all aspects of medicine, dentistry, public health, pharmacy and nursing. Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) is a national institution under the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. TLSB provides information to all groups of people by acquiring, organising and distributing books and other forms of information materials to individuals, schools, Institutions and public libraries. It serves a network of 30 public libraries throughout the country. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) is a professional association based in the UK with members spread among 83 other countries. The partnership, led by the Information Services, is supported by the RCOG International Office, the International Executive Board and the International Advisory Group. Formation and aims of the partnership= This three-way partnership was established in 2006, with support from Phi at the request of MUHAS, who were looking for a UK partner. The partnership aims to: build a sustainable programme for continuing professional development of health librarians; strengthen the capacity of MUHAS to provide training in promoting and accessing health information; and work with the public libraries to develop health corners in library branches. International Network for Availabilty of Scientific Publications (INASP) - TanzaniaINASP work with publishers to make information available -projects and activities -publications -events Information Searching and Retrieval Using Web-based Technologies, Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB), National Central Library, Dar es Salaam 24-28 August, 2009The facilitator Dr Evans Wema (UDSM) introduced some new concepts and ideas to aid effective search and usage of electronic information and resources. This was an interactive workshop where the twenty one librarians attending practised the skills demonstrated and shared their learning by making presentations to the group. Topics covered included:
Feedback was very positive helped by a group of participants noted as "very attentive, enthusiastic and eager to learn". Whilst there was the ongoing problem of periodic connectivity and power cuts, participants acquired relevant skills and knowledge on new development in their area of work. Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa (ITOCA) - TanzaniaITOCA supports training for librarians, information specialists, scientists, researchers and students in sub-Sahara Africa. ITOCA supports TEEAL, FAO's AGORA and WHO's HINARI programmes in the region. The site describes the organization's programs and contains fulltext training documents.
